Totally agreed. Though at first its difficult to accept but the fact remains that the sooner we accept our roles Honestly the better life will be for us. Often people have a BIG EGO which doesn’t let them GO with the situations in life.

I am in total agreement with you Damini.In our incarnation as human beings all that we bother about is ‘How to make him or her better.’ We rarely look within.
Introspection and self-improvement should be our focus. we must try our best to lead lives that make ourselves and others happy.
Meditation provides the much needed peace and direction to life.

Hi Sujasha

As per my understanding, the first step in character development has to be awareness which in itself is a significantly big step. Having said that, awareness is necessary but not a sufficient condition for character development. Subsequently, there has to be a will to change. Habits acquired over many incarnations will take time to overcome but this can be done by practising Master’s Teachings on Character Development. And as Master says… ” Character Building is a manifestation of your spiritual development… (Lotus Sutras on Character Building)”

Also for the definition of ‘undesirable’ and ‘desirable’ we have the Virtues that serve as a guiding light – as GMCKS says ‘ … the virtues are there to guide you …(Lotus Sutras on Character Building)’ Any activity that is in keeping with the virtues is desirable and by the same token an activity that goes against a virtue is ‘undesirable’ for the soul’s evolution. For instance, in the drinking example, by drinking alcohol we break the virtue of Loving Kindness and Non-Injury to ourselves.

You have touched upon a topic that occupies my mind (and I suspect, a lot of minds) a lot. It doesn’t seem as simple to me as you make of it. What is undesirable? Undesirable for whom, and why? If taking a human incarnation is all about experiencing life, and through life, experiencing the Divine, then drinking and its effects, its many associated good times and bad times, are all experiences, aren’t they? If awareness alone could convince the Soul to move on to the next level of experiences, then evolution would be faster, I think. The soul however, has to grow out of that experience after going through it, if that is what it seeks, isn’t it? Perhaps it is not just awareness, but something more that is required to be able to outgrow undesiarable habits or reactions. Awareness is knowledge. Knowledge is easily acquired. However, it makes little difference to our lives till we are ready to walk the path with full conviction, and consciousness. Changing one’s habits or character needs a level of maturity that a soul reaches when a lesson has been learnt and understood in depth, and internalised. For example, I am aware that our irresponsible uncontrolled thoughts and our chaotic emotions affect our health adversely, every moment. And being a pranic healer, I’m aware of the “reality” and the “magnitude” of this effect. Yet, it hasn’t yet given me the power, or should I say, the iron will and determination, to control and correct my thoughts and emotions.
Secondly, I am constantly stumped by the task of identifying the “virtuous” path at every micro level of life. This seems like a learning that has no short-cuts to it. Perhaps only Higher Intelligence can empower us to achieve this discretion and understanding. What do you think?
